A package is found at a University of Illinois parking lot in Chicago is brought
to the return adressee at Northwestern University, where it explodes when opened by security guard Terry Marker. Injuring one.

May 9 1979: Evanston (anonymous)
John Harris, a graduate student at Northwestern University, is injured
by a bomb

November 15, 1979: Chicago (anonymous)
A bomb explodes in an American Airlines 727 cargo hold during flight.
The airplane makes an emergency landing at Dulles International Airport.
Twelve people suffer smoke inhalation.

June 10, 1980: Lake Forest (FC = Freedom Club)
United Airlines President Percy Wood is injured by a mail bomb at his home
near Chicago.

June 1980: Task force assembled, given „UNABOM“ designation
(UNA=university, A=airline

October 8, 1981: Salt Lake City (FC)
A bomb is found in a University of Utah business classroom in Salt Lake City.
No one injured.

May 5, 1982: Nashville Tennesee (FC)
Janet Smith, a secretary, is injured by a bomb at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennesee; package was adressed to professor „Patrick Fischer“.
The package was mailed from Brigham Young University in Utah.

July 2, 1982: Berkeley Cal (anonymous)
Professor of electrical engineering and computer science injured in faculty lounge at University of California, Berkeley.

May 15, 1985: Auburn Washington (FC)
Package mailed to Being Co. in Auburn, Washington; safely disarmed.
Package was mailed from Oakland, California.

November 15, 1985: Ann Arbor Michigan (FC)
Nicklaus Suino is injured by a package-bomb mailed to University of Michigan professor James McConnell at Ann Arbor.

December 11, 1985: Sacramento Cal (FC)
The first fatality. Computer rental store owner Hugh Scrutton is killed by
when he picks up a bomb near his Sacramento computer store.

Februar 20, 1987: Salt Lake City Cal (FC)
Gary Wright is injured by a bomb left near a computer store in Salt Lake City, Utah. A witness in a Salt Lake City computer store sees a man in a hooded sweat shirt and aviator sunglasses placing a bomb.

Unabomber sletch is made

1987 Entire task force „UTF“ is set up: to catch the "most dangerous man in America".

Unabomber attacks cease for six years

June 22, 1993: Tiburon (anonymous)
Charles Epstein, a geneticist at University of California at San Francisco,
is injured by a bomb sent to his home. The package ist postmarked Sacramento.

June 24, 1993: New Haven Connecticut (anonymous)
Yale University computer expert David Gelernter injured in his office by
a bomb.
The package ist postmarked Sacramento.

June 1993: The „Unabomber“ communicates for the first time in a letter
to The New York Times explaining his eco-anarchist views.

A federal task force is set up.

December 10, 1994: North Caldwick New Jersey (anonymous)
Advertiseing executive Thomas Mosser is killed by a bomb sent to his home
in North Caldwell, New Jersey

April 24, 1995: Sacramento Cal (anonymous)
California Forestry Association President Gilbert Murray is killed opening a mail bomb at the Association´s headquarters in Sacramento.
The package was postmarked Oakland Cal.

June 24, 1995: Manifesto mailed from Sam Francisco Cal.

September 19, 1995: The Washington Post and New Yory jointly publish the Unabomber´s 35.000-word Manifesto „INDUSTRIAL SOCIETY AND ITS FUTURE“ by FC, following the serial bomber´s peromise to stop his attacks.

February 1996: David Kaczynski, after reading the manifesto and
comparing it to letters written by his brother Ted, communicates his
suspicions to the FBI

April 3, 1996 T.K. is taken into custody by Federal agents.

April 5, 1996: T.K. is charged with possessing bomb components and held without bail.
He is indicted in Sacramento for the Scrutton and Murray murders and
the attacks on Epstein and Gelernter, and in New Jersey for the Mosser murder.

June 18, 1996 Sacramento federal grand jury returns a 10-count
indictment against Kaczynski

October 1, 1996 New Jersey indictment for Thomas J. Mosser´s death

November 12, 1997: Jury selection begins.

December 22, 1997: Jury selections ends. U.S. District Judge Garland Burell Jr. meets with Kaczynski and his defense lawyers to discuss an „attorney-client issue“, later revealed to be a dispute over defense
strategy (Mentally ill).

Januar 5, 1998: Scheduled opening statements are delayed when Kaczynski renews his request to fire his lawyers and hire an attorney who will mount a defense based on his political views. The request is denied.

Januar 8, 1998: Opening statements are again delayed when Kaczynski asks to serve as his own attorney. Burell orders a competency evaluation for Kaczynski.

Januar 14, 1998: Defense files motion to disclose information about T.K.´s „secret shacks“

Januar 17, 1998: Bureau of Prisons psychiatrist Dr. Sally Johnson reports
that Kaczynski is competent to stand trial, but also probably a paranoid
schizophrenic, as his lawyers have maintained.

Januar 22, 1998: Court case is closed bevor began. Burell rejects T.K.´s
request for self-representation. Kaczynski agrees to „plea bargain“.

May 4, 1998: Kaczynski is given an airtight sentence and ordered to pay $15.026.000 to his victims

August 17, 2001: Request for Wiederaufnahme des Verfahres denied.
